Biography
2023-24
Kanon Catchings had a stellar season as the leading scorer for a deep Cold Hearts squad. Catchings took on the brunt of the scoring responsibilities for the third seeded Cold Hearts as he notched 14.4 PPG in the regular season, the 12th most in the league, and he upped his scoring average to 18.6 PPG in the playoffs. Catchings most dominant scoring outing of the season came in a win over the Blue Checks in January where he put up a double-double of 27 points and ten boards. Katchings wasn’t just a shot chucker either as he finished sixth in the league in field goal percentage at 54.5% which stands out since he is the only player in the top six to not have the majority of his shots come at the rim.
Catchings had a particularly impressive postseason as he led the Cold Hearts to the semi-finals and was asked to fill many different roles for the team as they faced injury throughout the playoffs. After an injury to big man John Bol, Katchings shifted into the starting big role in the quarterfinals against Jelly Fam and he delivered in a big way. After the Cold Hearts dropped the first game, Katchings put the team on his back in Game 2 with a line of 16 points and ten boards and followed that up with an even more impressive 21 points and 15 boards in Game 3 to propel the Cold Hearts to the semis. In the playoffs, Katchings finished top-ten in the league in PPG (18.6, 9th), RPG (8.4, 5th), BPG (1.2, 5th) and FG% (54.8%, 6th).
Catchings is committed to play college basketball at Purdue for the 2024-25 season.
Prep
Kanon is from Indianapolis, Indiana and is committed to play at Purdue. The Brownsburg standout averaged 17.5 points and 4.8 rebounds as a junior. Kanon is the nephew of Hall of Famer Tamika Catchings and his mom, Tauja Catchings, played at Illinois. He is the first player from Indiana to sign with OTE.
