Biography

2023-24

Big man Somto Cyril was a critical piece for the success of RWE in the postseason after he missed the bulk of the regular season with a hand injury. Despite only playing in seven games in the regular season, Cyril averaged 9.1 PPG but where he really made his presence felt was in the paint where he pulled down 9.3 RPG, the fourth highest in the league, and swatted 3.3 shots per game, the top mark in the entire league by over a block per game. Cyril’s strongest performance of the regular season came in RWE’s season opener against the Cold Hearts, when he recorded a massive double-double of 17 points and 17 boards, with his 17 boards tied for the fifth most in a game this season. As a defensive menace in the paint, Cyril holds five of the six highest individual block games this season, with five games of five or more blocks.

Cyril was top ten in the playoffs in RPG (7.6 RPG) and was the league’s number one shot blocker again (2.9 BPG) and also was the most efficient scorer as he knocked down 64.9% of his field goal attempts. In Game 1 of the semi-finals against the first seeded YNG Dreamerz, Cyril registered his lone postseason double-double, as he recorded 19 points and 11 boards while throwing down five monstrous jams which is tied for the most in a game during the 2023-24 season. In Game 5 of the finals, Cyril had a historic defensive performance in just 14 minutes of action, as he logged six blocks which is the single most blocks recorded in a single game this season.

Cyril is slated to continue his basketball career at the University of Georgia during the 2024-25 season.

2022-23

Somto was traded six games into the season from the City Reapers to the Cold Hearts. He was named OTE Defensive Player of the Year. Somto led the league in blocks per game with 3.4. He had over four blocks in eight games. His season high in blocks was seven against the Falcons. Scored in double figures five times. Somto had double figure rebounds two times with a season high of 16 coming against the YNG Dreamerz. Averaged 8.3 points and 7.7 rebounds in three games during the playoffs.

Prep

Somto attended Hamilton Heights Christian Academy. Boasting a 7-5 wing span, he is called Baby Shaq, and has already shattered a couple of backboards.
