After a big trade that involved seven players, the City Reapers still rolled over the Cold Hearts 101-90 on Friday, January 6 at OTE Arena.
In front of a capacity crowd, Ausar Thompson led the way with 25 points and seven rebounds. His twin brother Amen, was right behind him with 22 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and five steals.
The Cold Hearts hung tough trailing by six with 1:52 remaining, but the Reapers answered with a huge three from Eli Ellis to put the game out of reach. Ellis, the reigning OTE Player of the Week, finished with 14 points.
The City Reapers used a couple runs in the second and third quarter, threatening to run away with it, but the Cold Hearts responded every time to have a chance at the end. The City Reapers biggest run of the night was running 12 straight off, but the Cold Hearts ran off 15 straight at one point of their own towards the end of the third quarter to cut the Reapers lead to just one and trailed by three going into the fourth quarter.
The Reapers went on a 10-2 burst of their own led by Ausar and Amen to start the fourth. The Cold Hearts never gave up, but couldn’t get over the hump.
Despite there being nine lead changes in the game, the Reapers led for 36:24 of the contest, largely controlling it throughout.
Johned Walker in his first performance with the Cold Hearts, led the team with 19 points. They had six players overall score in double figures for a well balanced outing by the team.
Bryson Tiller showed out in his first game with the Reapers having 13 points and seven rebounds. Ryan Bewley also had 13 points to go along with eight rebounds.
The win moves the City Reapers to 10-0 setting up a huge league matchup next week with the one loss YNG Dreamerz at 7 p.m. on Friday night on Amazon Prime.
