Griggs Scores 24 in Second Half, Leads Team Elite to Big Win

Trailing by nine points early in the second quarter, Team Elite got rolling and never looked back, defeating Team Overtime 73-53 at OTE Arena on Tuesday night.

Down 21-12 and looking like Team Overtime was about to take control, Team Elite ran off a 13-1 lead to go up by three at halftime. That run stretched into the third quarter to 28-3 as Team Elite led 40-24 halfway through the third.

Bryce Griggs caught fire in the second half with 16 of the team’s 27 points coming in the third quarter. He went on to have 27 points in the game with 24 of them coming in the second half.

Team Elite outscored Team Overtime 48-31 in the second half to move them within two points in the standings of Team Overtime and Team OTE. They’re tied at the top of the standings with 17 points.

Griggs wasn’t the only one on his team who played really well. Jah Jackson finished with an OTE career high 12 points and seven rebounds in 14 minutes.

Ausar Thompson had a complete stat line with 17 points, six rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Emmanuel Maldonado also scored in double figures for the fourth time in five games with 11 points.

Team Elite had a slow start on offense, but their defense kept them within striking distance early. They forced 19 turnovers in the game.

Jean Montero led the Team Overtime with 14 points and four steals. The only other player in double figures was Lewis Duarte with 10.

The three Overtime Elite teams will now hit the road and travel to Ohio to take on Spire Institute, Western Reserve Academy and International Sports Academy. There will be three games on Thursday and three games on Friday.
