During the offseason at Overtime Elite, their players are playing all around the world to continue improving their game. Izan Almansa and Alexandre Sarr both represented their countries in the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup that took place in Spain.
Almansa represented the host team Spain and Sarr played for France.
After both teams advanced through group play, Spain and France played each other in the semi finals for a spot in the championship against USA. The host team and Alamansa got the better of France to advance to their first championship game in the U17 World Cup.
In the championship, USA edged out Spain 79-67, but with Almansa leading the hosts helped the hosts advance to the championship and win their first medal in U17 World Cup history.
"Almansa is an amazing kid, amazing worker. He's trying to do his best all the time," Spanish coach Javier Zamora said to FIBA after the championship game. "The most important thing for the team is the group. He was important in the locker room, on the court, every day. And he’s an example for other guys."
For the big effort with the home team, Almansa was named the TISSOT Most Valuable Player after averaging 12.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.6 blocks per game while hitting 55.7 percent of his shots from the field.
Sarr also had a very productive tournament averaging 12.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for France.
