After trailing by as many as 21 points in the second quarter, the Word of God Holy Rams stormed back with a huge second half to get the 92-89 win and sweep the Cold Hearts in the season series.
The Cold Hearts came out hot behind Tyler Smith building a huge early lead and were on the verge of blowing the Holy Rams out when their shots stopped falling late in the second quarter. Smith couldn’t miss early and scored 17 in the first and had 22 at the half.
The Holy Rams kept trying to start the come back in the third quarter, but Cold Hearts had an answer until the end of the quarter when they finally broke through. Over the final 3:43 of the quarter, they cut the lead down to as many as six before trailing by eight heading into the final frame.
Five minutes into the fourth they took their first lead at 80-78. The teams traded leads back and forth from there until Jamal Brown of the Holy Rams hit two free throws to put them up by one and they wouldn’t give up the lead from there.
The Cold Hearts had two chances at taking the lead or tying the game, but couldn’t come up with a basket. Rob Dillingham had the final look but couldn’t connect on his three-point attempt.
It was a complete team effort by the Holy Rams to come back, but Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn and Jayden Quaintance were the key driving forces behind it. Gibbs-Lawhorn finished with 29 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Quaintance had his ninth double-double of the season with 21 points and 15 rebounds.
The win makes the Holy Rams 7-6 on the season and locks them into the three seed for the playoffs.
Smith finished with a career high 35 points, Dillingham had 19 and Griggs finished with 18.
The next Overtime Elite game will be in Phoenix as the YNG Dreamerz plays the Hillcrest Bruins on Monday at 7 p.m. local time.
