Overtime Elite opened their new building in style by going 3-0 in front of a full house in Atlantic Station on Friday, October 29.
All three teams got off to a great start winning each of their respective games creating an electric environment throughout the entire night.
The highlight was OTE vs. Mikey Williams in the second game and it absolutely delivered for the capacity crowd. After making a big comeback in the fourth quarter, Vertical Academy led by three with 12 seconds left and Bryce Griggs hoisted a deep three to tie the score right before the buzzer sounded to force overtime.
With OTE’s rules, overtime is an untimed period where the first team to score four points wins the game. After a couple of misses by both sides, Team Leitao got a bucket to get one basket away from the win. After a stop, Griggs found Bryson Warren in the corner, who knocked down the three pointer for the walk off.
Griggs finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Jalen Lewis had 20 points with 18 of those coming in the second half.
In the first game of the night between Team Gomes and Dr. Phillips Basketball Club, Lewis Duarte led the way going 9-14 from the floor and scoring 29 points. Jean Montero was also a huge part of the win, finishing one rebound shy of a triple double while having 19 points and 10 assists.
Team Gomes never trailed in the game, jumping out to a double-digit lead early. Dr. Phillips kept pace for a while after that, but Duarte and Team Gomes proved to be too much. Dominick Barlow showed off his all-around game, going 7-11 from the floor scoring 14 points and collecting six rebounds and three steals. Barlow led the team with a +15 while he was in the game.
The final score of the first game was 86-71.
In the last game of the night, Team Fanning took care of business beating the KT Kings 83-71. Matt Bewley showed out with 20 points and pulled down 13 boards. De’Vontes Cobbs, Amen Thompson, Johned Walker and Izan Almansa all had double-digit points.
With five guys scoring in double-figures, Team Fanning shared the ball beautifully assisting on 22 of their 34 field goals.
Each OTE team will play another game on Saturday with the first starting at 3 p.m.
