Coming off their first season with Overtime Elite, Matt Bewley, Bryson Warren and Jalen Lewis will be three of 48 athletes to participate in USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team minicamp from April 1-3 in New Orleans in conjunction with the 2022 NCAA Final Four.
Minicamp participants and coaches were selected by the USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team Committee and will represent the high school graduating classes of 2023, 2024 and 2025. In addition to on-court drills and scrimmages, the athletes and their parents will participate in a series of educational programs presented by USA Basketball and the NCAA.
All three of the Overtime Elite selections took part in the inaugural OTE Championship with Warren and Lewis helping their team to capture the crown with Bewley’s team coming in second. This will be the second time that Lewis has played with Team USA and the first time for Warren and Bewley.
Warren led his team in three pointers through the year and was second on the team averaging 17.8 points per game per 36 minutes. In the second game of the championship with his team facing elimination, Warren scored 19 points to lead his team to victory and forcing a third game. He was one of the most consistent scorers in the league, having three 20-point games and scoring in double figures 17 times throughout the season.
Lewis was also on Team Elite with Warren and will be playing with Team USA for the second time. Last August, he averaged 13 points and 8.2 rebounds per 36 minutes. He scored in double figures seven times and had one 20-point game.
Bewley was a presence all season for Team OTE in the paint. He led all of Overtime Elite in rebounds, while also finishing fifth in points. He led the league in double-doubles with six. His biggest game of the season came with him scoring 24 points and collecting 17 rebounds against Word of God.
In New Orleans, after training for a couple days, the athletes from the high school class of 2023 will take part in an intrasquad scrimmage on the court at the Caesars Superdome, site of the 2022 NCAA Men’s Final Four. Also Sunday, members of the classes of 2024 and 2025 will conduct an intrasquad scrimmage at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center, home of the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, April 3. Minicamp participants will also attend Saturday night’s semifinal games.
