Overtime Elite has a massive game this week between their two teams sitting in first and second place with the City Reapers and YNG Dreamerz playing Friday, January 13 at 7 p.m. on Amazon Prime.
The City Reapers are 10-0 on the season and haven’t had a game within single-digits since their first game of the season where they won by four points. The Dreamerz are 7-1 and this will be their first league game of the new year. Their one loss this season came to the City Reapers.
Amen Thompson had a huge night that helped lift the City Reapers to 10-0 on the season as they took down the Cold Hearts 101-90.
He finished with a complete stat line of 22 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and five steals. The Cold Hearts cut the Reapers lead down to six with 1:30 remaining and Amen found Eli Ellis for a huge three for the dagger.
The double-double was the second of the season for Amen. This is his first OTE Player of the Week honor.
The City Reapers and Cold Hearts made a huge trade last week that involved seven players, but it didn’t slow the Reapers down.
They used big runs in the second and third quarter to control their game with the Cold Hearts last Friday. Bryson Tiller raised some eyebrows with 13 points and five rebounds as he was extremely physical in the post along with teammate Ryan Bewley.
Amen and Ausar Thompson still controlled the game combining to score 47 points going a combined 16-25 from the floor.
Looking ahead to this weekend, Amen and Ausar both combined for 51 points and 12 assists. Ausar had one of his most complete games of the season with 27 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals.
Averaging 94.4 points per game, the Dreamerz have scored over 100 points in their last two league games.
Against Hillcrest, they set an OTE record with 121 points and followed that up with an explosive 113 points at Word of God. In the four games they played in December, they averaged 112 points per game.
The only time they didn’t score triple digits, they had 99 against the Cold Hearts. They’ll need that scoring output Friday when they play the undefeated City Reapers.
The Dreamerz are extremely well balanced already and added Jahki Howard to the team for their stretch run. Howard is explosive and has shown he can be one of the best scorers in the league when he’s locked in.
Howard led the league in the preseason averaging 17.7 points per game. At times, that’s translated this season as he’s averaging 10.2 points per game. He was named Overtime Elite Player of the Week once after scoring 25 points at Hillcrest.
The Cold Hearts and OSL will square off with each looking to win the season series. Both teams have each won a game with the Cold Hearts getting the win in New York and the Falcons getting a win in Atlanta in December.
Bryce Griggs was a big piece of the puzzle in the first game against OSL, finishing with his first OTE triple double. In the second game, it was OSL’s point guard that dominated. Ty’Laur Johnson finished with 29 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds. The Memphis commit helped OSL win by 17.
With an OSL victory, they’ll move into fifth place and a shot at fourth place as the season enters its final weeks.
