Overtime Elite started the new year off strong winning all three of their games on MLK Day at OTE Arena in Atlantic Station against Moravian Prep, Vertical Academy and The Skill Factory.
All three teams had strong performances to help lead them to victory. Dominick Barlow and Amen Thompson both had double-doubles for their respective squads and Bryce Griggs led his team with 18 points.
After going 3-0 today, Overtime Elite will be back on the court this Thursday, January 20 with Team Elite taking on Team OTE at 7 p.m.
Team Overtime 70 vs. Moravian Prep 68
With Jean Montero out for the game, Dominick Barlow and Jazian Gortman stepped up and took the reins for Team Overtime.
Barlow had arguably his best game in an OTE uniform posting 20 points and 10 rebounds. Gortman took over at point guard and matched an OTE record with 10 assists to go with his seven points and nine rebounds.
Team Overtime was dominant in the first quarter and ended up having a 20-12 lead after the first eight minutes.
Moravian Prep would prove to be pesky all game long, getting hot from the outside and cut the lead to two at 30-28 at one point in the second. Team Overtime buckled down on defense pushing their lead out to five at the half.
Team Overtime put distance between themselves in the third quarter starting the second half with a 9-0 run. They carried a 54-38 lead into the fourth, but Moravian Prep would not go away.
Once again getting hot from the outside, things got tight in the fourth quarter. Leading by three with 3.4 seconds left, Team Overtime was called for an offensive foul. After making one of two free throws, Moravian Prep had a look to win, but missed from beyond the arc giving Overtime the two-point victory.
Every player that stepped on the floor for Team Overtime scored. They also had 20 assists on 25 made field goals.
Team OTE 84 vs. Vertical Academy 76
Team OTE matched up with Vertical Academy in the second game of the day.
Amen Thompson showed his game off scoring 17 points and dishing out 10 assists.
Vertical Academy had three players that combined for 64 points, but didn’t get much help outside of those three.
Those three players on Vertical Academy kept them out front into the third quarter and briefly in the fourth. Team OTE’s depth became too much though as they finally got some distance outscoring Vertical Academy 27-17 in the final quarter for the win.
Team OTE’s bench outscored Vertical Academy’s bench 26-0.
Team Elite 71 vs. The Skill Factory 58
Team Elite played in the final game of the day and after a tight first half, opened things up in the second half building a lead by as many as 20.
Bryce Griggs led the way with 18 points and seven rebounds. Jalen Lewis and Ausar Thompson both had 14 points as well. In addition to his 14 points, Lewis also led the team with four steals.
After trailing by two points at the end of the first, Team Elite outscored The Skill Factory 36-19 over the next two quarters to get the victory.
Their margin of victory of 13 was the largest of the day for Overtime Elite.
Big Jah Jackson made his return to the court and saw his first action at OTE. He finished with two points and one block.
